"Dry Body Brushing"

Dry body brushing, or skin brushing, is an age-old process of brushing the skin with a natural brush. Better than the gym, brushing invigorates your skin and stimulates your blood circulation, which will bring more blood (ergo TOXINS) to the outer layers of the skin for removal. This increased blood supply not only helps your skin eliminate toxins, but it also feeds and nourishes the skin as an organ in its own right. You’ll feel wonderful – just buzzing – and your skin is cleaner, fresher, glowing with new energy being released and bought back into to every cell. A Body Spa in just 15 minutes, and your day hasn’t even started yet.

The action of sweeping the brush across your skin refreshes it and unblocks pores so this massive organ of elimination can take its rightful place in helping you cleanse. What we are predominantly removing when we skin brush is our ‘acid mantle’, a combination of sweat (which carries toxins), dead skin cells and sebum (used to waterproof you) that has accumulated on your skin.

In addition to cleaning our skin, it encourages better Circulation to the surface of the skin stimulating it to renew so if you want younger, fresher looking skin with virtually no effort. This is definitely the way to go if you want healthy looking Skin and Better Circulation of Lymph and Removal of Toxins from your Blood means a healthier you on more than just one level.

Beneath the surface skin brushing is contributing to a healthy flow of toxins as it is, in effect, a self- massage, manually moving your lymph. Your lymphatic system does not have a pump like your blood has your heart, so skin brushing helps to move the lymph through its network of vessels. Creating a better lymphatic flow helps our body to carry its toxic load more efficiently to the blood where it is transported to the liver for final elimination.

Anything that mobilizes the lymphatic system also boosts our immunity as the vast network of lymph vessels not only carry away waste and harmful bacteria, they carry white blood cells (immune system cells) to various parts of the body that may be infected or under attack.

Logic dictates that if our skin can expel things we don’t need FROM our body, then it can also allow them to ENTER it – good and bad! With so many gels, creams, perfumes, soaps, and talc’s available and with one eye on keeping our toxic load down. It’s worth considering whatever you put onto your skin as ‘food’!!!! We are literally eating it, so think carefully when you buy products and don’t block pores with Cheep Sun Screens and Poor Products that can harm us. This is how nicotine patches, hormone patches or antibiotic creams work, you put them on to this large semipermeable membrane and it’s ingested – it’s brought directly into your body. There is only one rule when it comes to skin: if you wouldn’t put it in your mouth, it isn’t going on your skin!

How to do it

Use a soft natural fibre brush with a long handle so you can reach your back. Use this brush in a sweeping or circular motion to dry brush your body before you shower or bathe. You can do the brushing from head-to-toe or toe-to-head. Brush the front and back of all your limbs. It doesn’t really matter where you start so long as your entire body is brushed. The brushing motion should always be TOWARDS YOUR HEART. Use light pressure in areas
where the skin is thin or delicate (breast area) and harder pressure on places like the soles of the feet, legs and arms.

Avoid sensitive areas and anywhere where the skin is broken such as areas of skin rash, wounds, cuts, and infections.

Finish with your usual shower, but check the products you are cleansing with. Ideally shower with hot and cold water to really move your lymph. This involves turning the water as hot as you can take it for several seconds, then as cold as you can handle it for several seconds. Repeat this process three times.

Duration: Skin brushing should be performed once a day, preferably first thing in the morning on dry skin. A really good work-out will take you about 15 minutes, but start with 3-5 minutes and build up.

Finish off with a real good Body Moisturizer check the ingredients!! I only use my supplier from Vera-Garrucha “Natural Mente Mediterraneo .. Jennifer Young.
